Description:

This workshop is intended as a practical guide for new exporters, initiating them to the exporting regulatory requirements, the fundamentals of exporting and provides specific sources of information and rules related to the fish and seafood market.

The intent of this workshop is to introduce the new exporter to the many resources available to obtain regulatory information and documentation for the exporting of fish and seafood to an international market.

Workshop Objectives:

By the end of this workshop, the participant will be able to:

  • Identify the appropriate regulations and requirements for the exporting of fish, seafood and processed products to the main markets, i.e. USA, EU and Japan - including the requirements for the Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) and any new hygiene legislation.

  • Identify the Canadian laws, regulations, certification, export controls and foreign import controls applicable to fresh fish, to aquaculture, to registration as federal fish processing establishments (certifying the plant vs. certifying the product), inspection, labelling and residue testing.

  • List, describe and use (just-in-time) the required documentation such as origin certificates, health certificate, Fast Track, C-TPAT Security, HACCP, Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) in compliance with export requirements and to avoid loss of contract and product.

  • Recognize and manage the professional services of custom brokers, freight forwarders, insurance and bank advisors. Compare exporting requirements of different countries, for example, Mexico and Egypt.

 

Who teaches the workshop?

All workshops are taught by Certified International Trade Professional (CITP). It is the only professional trade designation of its kind, and is earned by completing courses and meeting standards and requirements set by FITT, Canada’s international trade training and professional certification authority.
