If you are looking into expanding your Canadian business into different international markets, then this is the site for you. The National Seafood Sector Council (NSSC) has developed a new and exciting workshop for fish and seafood companies who are looking into exporting products into new countries. The benefits derived from going global can be both lucrative and personally satisfying. As in any competitive environment, however, there are also challenges.
Export markets (other than North American Free Trade Agreement [NAFTA] markets) are not only far away, but also significantly different from the domestic market that a business is used to. If problems arise, it is not possible to just drive over and fix it. Not only does distance impose constraints, but there are also differences in time zones, in language, in culture and in expectations that add to complexity. For example, in Japan there is a general expectation of zero defects: that market will simply not tolerate anything else.
This 1 day workshop is intended as a practical guide for new exporters, initiating them to the exporting regulatory requirements, the fundamentals of exporting and provides specific sources of information and rules related to the fish and seafood market.
